Insert" exhibition in the newspaper "Le Monde" and real-time performance on France's 2nd national TV channel.
This type of intervention, carried out as an artistic concept, constitutes a media provocation that makes it possible to establish a direct 'interactive' relationship with the public in systems that generally operate on a unidirectional basis (from the Sender to the Receiver).  The artist's intervention acts as a transgression of the codes and usual uses of information and its rituals, casting a critical eye over the way it works.

This type of intervention, carried out as an artistic concept, constitutes a media provocation that makes it possible to establish a direct 'interactive' relationship with the public in systems that generally operate on a unidirectional basis (from the Sender to the Receiver). The artist's intervention imposes itself as a transgression of codes, of the usual uses of information and its rituals, casting a critical eye on its modes of operation. Forest has always considered that the information 'surface' of the new media was, in itself, the ideal and relevant place for contemporary creation. Since 1972, he has believed that the symbols of art should henceforth use these new circuits and new media for creation: the new communication technologies.

Device 

A series of press interventions or "inserts" (written press, radio, T.V.) which began with the publication in the newspaper "Le Monde", dated 12 January 1972, of a white rectangular space, entitled: "Title of the work 150 cm2 of newsprint". This was followed 10 days later, on 22 January, by a 60-second news break on the midday news of the second national channel of T.V. The 800 responses received from readers of "Le Monde" were exhibited at the Grand Palais, the Albertus Magnus Centre, the Institut de l'Environnement, the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne and the de Apple Foundation in Amsterdam ...

LONG BIOGRAPHY OF FRED FOREST

Fred Forest has a special place in contemporary art. Both by his personality and by his pioneering practices which mark his work. He is mainly known today for having used one by one most of the communication media that have appeared over the last fifty years. He is co-founder of three artistic movements: those of sociological art, the aesthetics of communication and ethics in art.

He represented France at the 12th São Paulo Biennale (Communication Prize) in 1973, at the 37th Venice Biennale in 1976 and at Documenta 6 in Kassel in 1977.
