The sewing machine
A project by the artist to make our grandmothers dream.
Projet : The sewing machine, sculpture
A project by the artist to make our grandmothers dream. My Spanish grandmother, he tells us, was Madame Morales, a seamstress in Mascara's Place de l'Argoub: "I remember that my mother and I would go there for endless hours of fittings".
As Madame Morales moved her machine forward with her foot, pressing down on the pedals, I watched in awe as the machine stood still. Today, that childhood fear has become a familiar memory that I treasure. And I imagine this sewing machine as a living being that takes on the most advanced forms of the future. Sadly, once again, the project fell through... due to lack of budget!
Other version /
An artist's project to make our grandmothers dream. My Spanish grandmother," he tells us, "was called Carmen Molla. Her acquaintance and friend was Madame Morales, a dressmaker in Mascara's Place de l'Argoub: "I remember that my mother and I, under her guidance, would go there for endless hours of fittings... "
As Mrs Morales would push the pedal to move her machine forward, I would watch in awe as the machine stood still. Today, that childhood fear has become a familiar memory that I treasure. And I imagine this sewing machine as a living being that takes on the most advanced forms of the future. This vivid memory led me to imagine a work of art that would take the form of this memory.Unfortunately, this project never came to fruition, once again... due to a lack of budget!
I mention it here.
